Lithology and Thickness

The considered deposits are represented by clay and siliceous slates, siltstones and sandstones, containing layers and lenses of limestone, gravelites, and conglomerates. Their incomplete thickness is 400-500 m.


Lithology Pattern:

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

They conformably overlie (often with signs of erosion) the Namurian – Moscovian strata of limestones

Upper contact

Overlying deposits are unknown.

Regional extent

Near the villages of Vorukh and Maidan.

Fossils

The described rocks contain remains of foraminifera of the Moscow stage, including those appearing in the late Moscow period, such as Fusulinella cf. subpulchra Putr., Profusulinella ex gr. librovitchi Dutk., Eofusulina cf. subtilissima Putr., and others.


Age 

Considering the presence of late Moscow fauna remnants in the underlying strata, the described rocks should be considered part of the upper substage of the Moscow stage.
